Blog Post #2

1. The central message of this video is that you can't expect your students to learn by just teaching from a PowerPoint or any form of just writing notes. In this video, the class was a dancing class which is hands on and the students should have been taught by demonstration then having them actually do the dance steps in class. The author makes it very clear that by the students just showing up for class and not being able to participate in actually doing the dance steps then they are not learning what the teacher is suppose to be teaching. His conclusion showed that none of the students learned anything in the class by just taking notes. I agree with his conclusion because I am a very hands on person and would have liked to physically do the steps to better learn what they are and how to do them.

2. In this video, Roberts is basically saying that teaching in the 21st Century is being taken over by the internet and the different forms of electronics. The teachers are not the main source of knowledge any more.

  • Technology is the main source of knowledge.
  • Students in the 21st century should be able to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create.
  • Use different tools and technology to get the students more involved and interested in learning.
Roberts sees teaching as being taken over by technology and electronics. I think he is correct, but I don't think it will affect me negatively as a future educator. If I can use technology in a good way by teaching my students to use it for learning and networking and connecting with other students on what they are learning then it will get them more engaged and more interested in the classroom.

3. The student described in this video is so good at networking because he was taught by his teacher on how to be prepared and build his network. His teacher helps him throughout his process and overs him guidance on anything and everything. If he didn't have a teacher like her willing to help him with his networking, then he most likely wouldn't be networking or wouldn't have any idea on how to start and keep up with it. His teacher is the reason for him being successful in his networking.

4.The thesis of Davis' video is that technology is a good form of teaching for students who already use technology on a daily basis. She is also teaching her students how to use technology in different ways other than for social media. Her way of getting her students to use technology to better communicate with other students around the world is an excellent idea. I wish that I would have had a teacher or anything when I was in high school that could have taught me how to better use technology in a way to communicate and collaborate with other students around the world.

5. I learned a lot while watching "Who's Ahead in the Learning Race?" Before watching this video, I really thought that the Graduate Students were ahead, but now I can see that the Elementary Students are really the ones who are ahead of everybody. Watching them being able to use Mac computers after just having them for a couple of days really impressed me. I don't even have a Mac computer and I'm still learning how to do different things on it. I am currently a Undergraduate Student and haven't learned how to do half as much as those Elementary Students have.

6. I love the idea of "Flipping the Classroom." It gives students the opportunity to learn better and be more prepared for the lessons on the upcoming school day. I had never heard of this idea before watching this video. This is a brilliant idea that I would definitely use as a teacher. It will allow me to teach my students more and be more creative in the classroom. I also feel as though I am not going to be one of those teachers who likes to just stand in front of the classroom and lecture all day. I like to be engaged in activities and flipping the classroom will provide me with interacting with my students more and having fun in the classroom all the while still learning the material.

  1. Hey Kiyana,
I really enjoyed your post, my favorite part had to be the Mr. Dancealot video. I thought that you did an incredible job on your post. I like the idea of the Flipped classroom, and I would agree with you about how it would allow you to teach the students more and also, allows them to be more creative in the classroom.
