Blog Post #8

In Randy Pausch's Last Lecture video, he talked about his childhood dreams and how to enable the dreams of others. He is really a inspirational educator and this videos made me look at a few things differently. He is a very positive person even after being given the news about his health. In his video, he talks about following your dreams and not letting other people get in your way. As an educator, you want to be honest with your students and encourage them to dream big. He also says in his videos that you have to get the fundamentals down in order to be successful. Something that he said that I really liked is "When your screwing up and no one is saying anything to you no more, that means they gave up." It's really bad when someone gives up on, it makes you just want to give up on yourself. I will use that lesson towards my future as an educator. As an educator, in order to better teach your students you have find the strengths and weaknesses in each student. Learning the students strengths and weaknesses will help better understand how each student learns and what better suits them. You have to make learning fun by using different technology and project based learning.

This video has really encouraged me to follow my dreams and encourage other people to follow theirs.

  1. Hi Kiyana!

Great post! I found this video to be very motivational as well! I also agree with his point regarding mastering fundamentals before building on! That is just like the foundation of a house, if it is not done right and complete, you don't wan to build on it or it will crack. Foundations (fundamentals) are highly important.

  2. Great post, Kiyana! I love the comparison of fundamentals to the foundation of a house. If the foundation of the house is not built correctly we cannot move on to the next step. Keep up the good work!
